Sustainable Farming

Each year for the health of our customers and the environment, we take bigger and bigger steps toward becoming organic and more sustainable farmers. Some steps we have taken this year include:

  • We are using compost in our fields for nutrients.
  • Between the rows of vegetables, we are using cover crops of rye and clover instead of spraying.
  • We encourage the natural wildlife habitat by using cover crops to encourage beneficial insects and suppress weeds.
  • We will be creating snake habitats, raptor perches and bat boxes which will encourage the natural predators and keep away mile, voles and gophers.

Steps we have taken in the past to help us in this transition include:

  • Our vegetables are grown without chemical pesticides.
  • We've installed a wind turbine which is estimated to generate 15,600 kw hours per year.
  • We recycle plastic pots for our customers.
  • We always recycle any plastic used in growing, such as our drip tape and mulch.
